Blog 6 | How Is It Made?

This month we have decided to give you a small insight into how our amazing mogbog luxury litter trays are manufactured. Here is a brief step by step guide on the process of how are trays happen.

STEP 1. The mixing process - Ground Plastic.

Our trays may be flexible, sturdy, solid items but did you know they start off as powdered plastic? Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) is a type of shiny, glossy finished plastic used to make everything from hard hats to pipes and even LEGO!

The ground ABS we use is white for the trays and grey for the accessories. 

The granules or pellets of ABS are vacuumed up and moved towards the moulding machine ready for the next step.

STEP 2. The heating process - High Heating.

Once the granules of ABS are vacuumed up they are shipped off to the moulding machines where they are heated up to a temperature of around 230 degrees Celsius which causes them to melt.

STEP 3. The moulding process - High Pressure Moulding.

Once the ABS is melted, it is injected into a metal mould in the shape of the tray. The high pressure force is important to the process to ensure the trays are accurately shaped and moulded giving them their perfect finish.

STEP 4. The cooling down process.

The trays are then removed from the moulds and moved along to cool down. The cool down time can vary as it needs to settle at room temperature. This needs to be done correctly as it can change the plastics properties.

STEP 5. The printing process.

The final process is the addition of our logo. This is a printing process direct to product.

As you can see, this is just a simple breakdown to give you an idea of how our trays are made. There are many other factors that make this a complicated process such as the viscosity of the melted plastic, moisture, temperature control, the injection pressure and speed and also shrinkage!

Before being shipped off, all our trays are quality controlled and checked to make sure they are purrfect for your cat.
